Give us a call and we will help setup an appointment with our staff to meet at the Cemetery. Once you have chosen a space, we can accept payment in person or by phone.

  • 2 caskets, if the first burial is buried at double depth

An approved Interment Permit is required for burials. Once the opening and closing of the grave is paid, our cemetery staff will schedule a time with the family to meet for burial of cremains

Only authorized monument companies may install stones with an approved Foundation Permit. All stones must be 36″ or less per grave space. See our Cemetery Policy Statement for requirements.

The cemetery assumes no responsibility for memorials, flowers, decorations vases, urns, or other property on any interment space. Owners should make arrangements with their personal insurance carriers regarding any personal property such as memorials, vases and urns that are at the cemetery.

The City of Shawnee assumes no responsibility for the placement or maintenance of any decorations placed on graves.

Permitted:

  1. Artificial and fresh cut flowers will be permitted during the grass-mowing season (April 1 until October 15) and shall be placed in an approved permanent receptacle within six (6) inches of the memorial or on the base of the stone.
  2. Plants are permitted for Memorial Day, with four (4) days allowed before Memorial Day for decorating and four (4) days after, for picking up plants or decorations before the plants will be removed by cemetery staff.
  3. From November 1 through March 15, wreaths and artificial decorations are permitted and shall be placed within six (6) inches of the memorial and will be removed when faded or during spring clean up after March 15.
  4. Flags and veteran’s emblems will be permitted on Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day with removal occurring within two weeks of holiday.

Prohibited:

  1. Copings, fences, curbs, retaining walls, structures of wood, or other equally perishable material are prohibited.
  2. The planting of hedges or elevated mounds is strictly prohibited
  3. No ground cover or other plantings, other than grass will be permitted.
  4. Toys, unsightly objects, glass jars, glass vases, and unapproved containers will not be permitted as grave decorations

Planning Considerations

The days following a loss can feel overwhelming, with many decisions and arrangements that need attention. This guide is designed to help you and your family work through the process with as much ease as possible. From contacting the right people to making arrangements at the funeral home and cemetery, consider this a helpful checklist to lean on when you need it most.

  • Determine a budget for services and arrangements
  • Select a cemetery or memorial garden
  • Choose a casket or urn
  • Order a tent and chairs, if desired
  • Determine how many copies of the death certificate you’ll need
  • Select an outer burial container
  • Choose pallbearers
  • Select music for the service
  • Choose readings for the service
  • Prepare a eulogy
  • Decide on floral or plant arrangements, and plan for their disposition after the service
  • Inform the funeral home of any military honors, if applicable
  • Establish a memorial fund (through a church, hospice, charity, or school)
  • Meet with cemetery staff to discuss options and pricing
  • Select a burial or cremation space, if one has not already been purchased
  • Pay the fee for opening and closing the plot (required at the time of interment)

Cemetery Etiquette

We ask that all visitors conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful of others and of this sacred space. Anyone exhibiting inappropriate behavior may be asked to leave the premises.

Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash at all times.
